While the photographer’s away, the artist will play!  And paint!  And show her beautiful work!  I’ve invited Annapolis artist Kim Hovell, best known for her beautiful Chesapeake Bay oysters, to take over the studio from March 14 – 21.  During the week that she calls the studio home, Kim will debut an exhibition entitled “Salt Work” which will include original paintings and prints of oysters, as well as new works featuring shark’s teeth and abstract scenes.

On Thursday, March 19th, at 6pm, Kim will be hosting an artist’s reception in conjunction with Maryland Avenue’s “Maryland, Oh Maryland” special event day to kick off Maryland Day festivities.

We hope to see you!

If you know me then you know how much I love my little neighborhood on Maryland Avenue, and have loved the studio being a part of it for over 3 years now.  I suppose some of that has to do with the fact that I lived a couple of blocks away for almost 10 years before getting married and moving out of downtown Annapolis (to a house with a bathtub, a closet and garage – but I digress that’s a story for another day), but there is just something really special about our little street and all of its businesses.  We hope to feature some of our friends and neighbors in future blog posts, but in the meantime, let me welcome our newest neighbor, Lil Lamb Shop!  I have been a fan of the store since they opened over near the Annapolis mall years ago, so when we heard that they were coming to the avenue we couldn’t have been happier.

Except, I was in fact happier when I spied the children’s clothing they are now carrying, being pressed and hung in the store.  OMG sensory overload.  My mind kept shifting back from two selfish thoughts – 1 – I want my girls wearing this clothing 2 – I want my clients’ children wearing this clothing, and actually 3, does any of this come in my size?  Thought #1 could bankrupt me (because I want it all), but I’m hoping that thought #2 will help with that because I can get my fix if your kids are wearing it when I take their portraits 😀  Thought #4 was “how do I get my clients’ children in this clothing NOW because I don’t want to wait” and from that came a quick discussion with Kristin, the owner of the store and our idea was this –

Purchase $100 in clothing at Lil Lamb Shop in the month of March, and receive a $100 voucher to use with me for a portrait session in March or April!  That’s like getting FREE CLOTHES PEOPLE!  If you’ve been thinking of Easter portraits, or need a little session to fill in the gaps between seasons, this is the time!  You can make your purchase at Lil Lamb in the store, or online.  Please contact the studio with questions about portrait session specifics.  You can reach us by phone at 410.263.2505 or email at info@heathercrowder.com

The looks you see pictured here are from Persnickety and JoJo Maman Bebe, both of which I cannot get enough of!  I look forward to seeing you and hope you find a few minutes to get your shop on!
