my girl… (annapolis photographer)

cgmommytosend.jpgblogstar1.jpg…just thinking about Kelly’s book made me think of my own little love. Taken by Daddy, just yesterday, a treat to have a pic of the two of us since I am usually on the other side of the camera. Love her :) And for those of you who remember the post a few weeks ago about the sweater made by Grandma, well, the dress she is wearing was made by MY Grandma, yup, my Mom’s mom – 35 years ago! Truly priceless.

blogstar.jpg …a great new read! I recently had the opportunity to photograph author Kelly Corrigan, while she read excerpts from her new book, The Middle Place, to a group of very excited women at local shopping hot spot Sitting Pretty. Owner, Emily Giebel, opened the shop after hours and hosted Corrigan, much to the delight of those who attended. Many in the crowd said, “hmm, she looks familiar…,” probably because they had seen her just that morning on The Today Show being interviewed by Anne? Or, maybe they had read a blurb about the book in “O” magazine? Or was it People, or Elle, or Glamour – the list goes on? Nonetheless, they were glad they braved the chill of a frosty night, and were quickly warmed by the heart of this wonderful writer.

I picked up a copy of Corrigan’s book after listening to her read a few excerpts, and I am already hooked. Admittedly, I love to read, but I’m not “good” at it – it’s hard to grab my interest, and then keeping my attention is even more of a challenge. Not the case with this one – it’s hard to put down, and I have found myself neglecting my blog staying up a little later than usual to devour it, page by page. First and foremost, Kelly is adorable, charming, warm, and very much the girl that lives next door (or you wish she did, anyway.) From the sparkle in her eyes when she talks about her daughter, her father, her loved ones, you immediately know the importance of her family, and this love is very much the basis of her memoir.

Kelly, while you may have said you didn’t excel on the lacrosse field, no doubt that few can keep up with your wry sense of humor and wit! It was a joy to meet you and I wish you all the luck in the world with your fantastic new book. Oh, and say hi to Greenie for us :-)

To order your copy of The Middle Place (if you don’t already have one), you can find it HERE on Amazon.

Don’t. Touch. My. Monkey. (annapolis child photographer)

Blogstarfish…that was actually my comment for the post from last week. There were SO many funny comments – you all really made my week with your humor. I went roundy roundy and couldn’t decide, so I left it in the hands of a friend who was over visiting and the winner is…
“Does this sock monkey make me look fat?” left by Chrissy! SO funny, and I won’t be the one to tell him that he does have the tiniest little chub roll spilling over his jeans. I bet his momma wouldn’t have it any other way.

Since Stephanie was the closest comment to mine, and although I have never met her I find her really funny in general (check out her blog if you haven’t already), she is a winner too. Chrissy wins the 8 x 10 and the $20 gift card to Starbuck’s, so send me your address and it will be on its way. Since Stephanie seems to be fond of these boys, her nephews, her special prize will be a 5 x 7 of each of them which she can select from their gallery (get the password from their Mom) and I will be happy to send your way.

Now, leaving you with an image last week that may not have been his cheeriest, I thought it most appropriate to post one, just two snaps after it on the camera….

Blogstarfish… it’s up to you! I’m finally finishing up on gallery for a client that I did a shoot for right before the holidays (I am so grateful for her patience :-) and when I came upon this one, there was just no way NOT to share it with the world. For those of you who read my blog, you know I love clever little titles for my posts, but I simply had too many captions in my head for this picture, and could not choose just one. So, I have decided to leave it up to YOU to come up with something fabulous. Yes, the first contest of 2008!

Between now and Friday night at 9pm (EST) leave your oh-so-clever-caption in the comments section and a winner will be chosen and posted on Saturday morning! If you haven’t left a comment before, simply click on the small “comments” beneath the photo and a little form will come up for you to complete. I cannot wait to see what you come up with! For those of you moms with toddler girls, leaving phone numbers is not appropriate. If you have trouble leaving your comment, shoot me an email.

And now, the prizes…first of all, the sweet cherub’s momma wins right off the bat because she gave birth to this beautiful creature and his little brother; her prize will be forthcoming. For the person with my most favorite comment/caption (and yes, I will probably drag John into helping me choose), you’ll receive an 8 x 10 from either a recent or future session, AND a $20 Starbuck’s gift card! Woo hoo! (The gift card is so that you out of towners reading this don’t have to spend all that cash on a flight to come collect on your free 8 x 10). I have just written “my entry” down on a piece of paper, and there will be a special prize for the person that says exactly the same thing that I am thinking…

Ok, back to work so I can get this gallery done before these boys go off to first grade. Back to work “officially” next week with scheduled shoots after what has been a GREAT break after the holiday madness!

a mother’s gift (annapolis kid photographer)

Blogstarfish
…I just have to take a second and brag about my Mom. She has always been so proud of whatever I’ve done (and if you’ve ever been on the sidelines next to her cheering at one of my sporting events, you and your ears know what I mean :-) and now it’s my turn to be proud of her. She’s always been a very capable seamstress and knitter, but this time she has truly outdone herself. When I was a child, she made a LOT of my clothes, halloween costumes, etc. and as an adult she’s knit me a couple of sweaters. She made a beautiful sweater for Caroline last Christmas, but when I opened the box this year, and saw the latest creation “made with love by Grandma,” well I was speechless. The photos just don’t do it justice; there are more stitch varieties than I can count, a pocket on the front for little hands when they get chilly, and of course a hood, because you know, hoodies are in now. I am SO glad that she made it big because I know I will cry when my sweet girl outgrows it (first because it will mean she is no longer a baby, and two because the sweater won’t fit anymore).

I titled this post a Mother’s gift for two reasons – because of this wonderful gift from Grandma for my girl, and also because this gift, the ability to create such a beautiful garment with needles and yarn, was passed down to my Mom, from her Mother, who came to this Country a few years before my Mother was born. I wish I could say the apple didn’t fall far, but I can tell you this, I can only dream of having that kind of talent.

These are just quick snaps – nothing fancy, just had to show off my Mom’s hard work :-)

Thanks Mom :-)
