happy new year! (annapolis photographer)

Blogstarfish…I was a little torn about what to post for my last image of 2007 and stumbled across something that still has me laughing. If you enjoyed the leisure suits and barrel furniture pics a couple of weeks ago, then you will LOVE this link. Nothing like a little polyester and a mullet to make me smile. Of course, my daughter has a little bit of a mullet right now, but that’s another issue, I digress.

As I am typing, I am scrambling in my mind to remember where OUR Olan Mills Family portraits are, and if I can find them, I promise I will post a couple. Oh dear, down to the basement I guess I must go.

When I look at pictures like these, from so many years ago, the thing that makes them so fun is that we can ALL relate to those times where your Mom dragged you out in some get-up that you didn’t really want to wear, “styled” your hair as best she could, and plunked you down in front of the library back-drop for that oh-so-elegant look that she longed for. (well, ok, the captions add a little fun too)

I certainly hope that years from now, when you look back at the relaxed portraits that I have taken of your families, that you’ll smile for a different reason. Instead of seeing a contrived attempt at “picture day,” you’ll see the faces of those you love, as they are, and their spirit will shine through. It’s why I love what I do, and why I love for children to play and be themselves during our time together.

I hope that all of you have a safe, fun New Year’s Eve and that this will put a smile on your face for the start of 2008 – I know it’s going to be a GREAT year!

oh, and feel free to comment below if you want to share some of your “picture day” memories :-)

public service announcement…

Blogstarfishladies… Get. Your. Shop. ON!  Today at NOON, throngs of crazed women with visions of 50% off signs dancing in their heads post-Christmas shoppers will barrel down the door of Sitting Pretty taking the sale racks by storm peruse the racks of Sitting Pretty for great deals from their favorite designers.

If you have never visited the store, you are really missing out.  Not only do they have THE BEST selection in the area of unique things from a long list of great designers, but owner Emily Giebel has a keen ability to put you in just the right outfit.  (Ok, I like to pretend she is my personal stylist, if I actually had a personal stylist, but since I don’t I just ask Emily, and she has never been wrong.)  Anytime a client or friend asks where I got that…belt/sweater/dress/t-shirt/headband/fill-in-the-blank-here, there is a pretty good chance it came from Sitting Pretty

Whether you still need something fabulous for a party on New Year’s Eve, or a casual sweater to make you feel cute while you are cleaning up from holiday chaos, Sitting Pretty is the place to find it.  To say that a 50% off sale is the icing on the cake, since I’ve had my fill of Christmas cookies, let’s just say it means twice as much stuff ;-)

And if your New Year’s resolution is to get rid of all of the tired, dated stuff you never wear anymore, and update your wardrobe, call Emily.  Click HERE to read all about this service that she offers.  I would go into detail about the time she and I spent in my closet, but I am too embarrassed to mention that she could specifically identify the year, season and store where some of my has-beens were from.

May the best shopper win!  See you at Noon – Happy Shopping, Good Luck, but don’t even think of buying what I have my eye on!

merry Christmas… (annapolis photographer)

Blogstarfishand happy holidays! I had every intention of posting seasons greetings to everyone much sooner, but as usual holiday shopping, baking (ok, I didn’t bake but my mother in law did, does that count?), decorating, card mailing, cooking, etc got the best of me, and it’s only now, after all of the gifts have been opened, dinner is in the oven, and everyone (but me) is napping, that I have had the first minute to post. My gosh that was a long sentence, sorry :-)

John and I feel so blessed to have a house full of chaos and to get to spend the holidays at home with our families and the people we love most. Our hope is that we can take a little time, over the next couple of days to rest, relax and do some visiting and enjoy what should be a much more peaceful time of year.

One of my favorite verses reminding us why this really is a joyful season…

Luke 1:14
And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth

I hope that all of you have a wonderful, safe and joyful holiday and that 2008 brings you and your families lots of happiness! Thank you to all of my wonderful clients who made this such a great year, I really can’t believe how lucky I am to have you!

I had hoped to download some pics of our morning, but since I just have a second, here’s our Christmas card instead.

Blogstarfish_2I’m sure that you can think of as many cute captions for this first photo as I can. His expressions through-out the entire session cracked me up. I have an entire “filmstrip” on the bottom of my screen of him making every possible face from frown, to smile, to query, to laugh, to coy. Fortunately, no tears. He is a stunning baby boy (with a knock-out momma and padre, go figure) with eyes, to me, that look like a melted hershey bar. Add to his dreamy looks the fact that he will speak Italian, and oh my, the little girls at Tumble Tots won’t know what hit them :-) Ciao Bella! (or is it bello?)

Blogstarfishthese 2 sisters are SO cute! Big sister, who I met for the first time just a few days after she came home from the hospital, barely weighing 5 pounds, has become such a wonderful, spirited little girl. She did her best to try to coax some laughing from her little sister, who wasn’t really sure what to make of me with my big black clicky camera – her buddy Ellie elephant was never very far away. I don’t know about you, but I could seriously see them both atop a cake in those darling little outfits. Please note tiny pink bows at the ankles of big sis’s black velvet pants. Oh my gosh – these two were adorable!

Blogstarfish…what fun I had this afternoon! Yes, I am breaking my cardinal rule of not stopping what I am in the middle of to turn all of my attention to my most recent session because there is simply no way I can wait to look at the images to take a quick peek at my most recent session. I just couldn’t help it because this little guy was just a sweetheart. I had the chance to photograph him both awake and sleeping which you can see here and I wish I had time to post more images! His Mom and I followed his lead and as a result we got a lot of great shots that I can’t wait to share with her!

I didn’t know that I would luck and out have his big brother wake up from his nap while I was still there, but I managed to get a few cute shots of him as well. What a HAM! I don’t know about you, but did he think I was there to shoot HIM for IN Style magazine or something? What a crack-up – so reminds me of the “celebrities at home” feature of that magazine. To his Mom – not sure that any agents read my blog, but look out because the “King” (as he is affectionately referred to by his family) may just get discovered.

Hmmm, if he’s the King, I wonder what nickname the little perfect sleeper will take on?

Blogstarfish…Admittedly, I am getting a little punchy sitting in front of the computer. As I mentioned in a previous post I have been working hard getting everyone’s prints ready, cards ready, etc. and I’m not one who’s very good at sitting still for long. My friend just emailed me this link, and if you feel the need to be doubled over laughing at your desk need a giggle, you must read. I can’t decide which is funnier to me, the fact that we had that barrel furniture (although ours was upholstered a little differently), or the jumpsuit that I would love to see my husband playing golf in, as they describe.

I hope you enjoy a little laugh on a Monday…and feel free to comment – for those of you who don’t know, you can always add comments to the posts on my blog – so if any of this rings a memory bell for you, I’d love to know. Be sure to click the link below. It will surely keep me going when ADD starts getting the best of me here at the computer!

Enjoy!

I see you… (annapolis kids photographer)

Blogstarfish_2So in my last post I probably should have mentioned that before he was “done” that we had a lot of FUN! I think this image shows that there was a LOT of giggling (and leaf throwing) amidst the chasing of the toddlers. What I wish you could see (and then you would understand why little miss is such a fashionista) are the super cool boots that Mom had on that made these already fabulous legs even longer.

I also want to mention, since it is another late night here at Getting-client-prints-and-holiday-cards-proofed-prepared-ordered-and-boxed headquarters, that orders are coming in everyday and as soon as I ensure that each is ready for your wall (or the US Postal Service) I will contact you to let you know!

BlogstarfishHere’s a question for you. I have black patent shoes, a houndstooth scarf, and could potentially put a red headband in my hair, but I’ve got NO chance of being as cute in that ensemble as this little peanut. I’m not sure what she made of our time together, but I just love this expression – it says to me “yeah, I’m not really sure I have a lot of time for this…” Her big brother felt the same way, and actually ended our session with “ok, I’m tired of this Mom” but nonetheless, I got what their mother hoped for and I know she’ll be happy when she sees their gallery. In the meantime, here are a couple of peeks :-)
