I have been "taking pictures" forever (haven’t we all?) and did so a lot in my previous profession. For nearly 15 years I owned and operated a retail scuba and snorkeling store, taught people how to dive, and then escorted them on trips around the world (literally). It was during these adventures around the globe, that I really got a chance to enjoy photographing not just people or places, but the people IN the places – capturing the most memorable moments of our trips. I have heard more than once (ok, MANY times) "will you please put that camera away?" and my stock answer was always "you’ll thank me later, I’m capturing YOUR memories." Well it really is true, looking back on photos of all of those trips — I’m so glad I didn’t succumb to the pressure to put my camera away.
Now that I am a mother, I really see how quickly time flies (everyone says it but a baby brings it to life in a different way). We are all guilty of needing to update the baby book, recording first steps and applesauce on video and trying to hold on to each precious minute as our babies grow up. I hope you’ll invite me to capture your children just as they are – in everyday moments – which to me is when they are at their best. I promise that you’ll treasure the images from our playdate for years to come. Life, after all, is one big playground.
